Our Story

Village Roots was created from a simple belief: children should not be separated from their parents simply because a family is facing poverty, homelessness, or a season of crisis.

For years, our work has centered on walking alongside families when stability feels out of reach. Again and again, we saw parents working hard to do what was asked of them, while barriers like housing, income, transportation, and lack of support made it difficult to keep their families safely together.

Village Roots exists to help close that gap.

Through Shared Family Care, we provide practical, relationship-based support for families facing housing instability, homelessness, or crisis. That support may include housing navigation, short-term stabilization assistance, family coaching, financial education, employment readiness, parenting support, Community Closet essentials, and temporary host-home support when needed.

Our work is rooted in prevention. We believe families deserve support before a crisis becomes separation. We believe parents are capable when they have the right tools, resources, and people around them. And we believe community has a powerful role to play in helping families grow stronger.

Today, Village Roots serves families across Douglas and Sarpy Counties through family stabilization services, the Community Closet, and partnerships with schools, agencies, donors, volunteers, churches, businesses, and neighbors who believe families belong together.

We are building a village of support around local families so children can remain safely connected to the people who love them most.

This is our story.

This is your village.

And this is only the beginning.
